Besamim by Havdalah
Question: I had a cold last week and was very stuffy or a few days. When it came Motzei Shabbat time to make Havdalah I wasn’t sure I could say a bracha on the Besamim. At that point my nose somewhat clear but I still could not smell half the time. I told my wife to make the bracha, but could I have made the bracha hoping that I would be able to smell it?

Question: I was walking by a bakery yesterday and the smell of bread baking was so good that I went in and bought myself a challah. I realized though should I have made a bracha of Minei Besamim or something else on the smell of bread?
Question: Hello to the Rabbi, A few years ago, I planted a passionfruit vine in my garden. It was very beautiful at first but now it’s a different story. It spread all over my yard covering other plants and fences etc. It has grown completely out of control. I planted to make the fence look nice and I never ate the fruit, is it permitted to uproot the vine?
Netillat Yadayim with a cup with a hole
Question: I was in a restaurant and there was a Netillat Yadayim cup which had a hole in it. Was it Ok to wash with it?

Question: Bonsoir, j'ai un problème, car j'ai planté des légumes pendant l'hiver et ils ont poussé depuis. Mais, ma question est si je peux les consommer, vu que j'ai lu qu'on n'a pas le droit de manger de la nouvelle récolte avant Pessah'. Alors, je ne sais pas quoi faire avec ces légumes. Question: Chalom, je suis vendeur dans un magasin qui se trouve à Neuilly, aussi j'ai l'habitude de laisser une barbe de 3 jours, et même sur cela mon patron m'a fait des remarques. Baroukh Achem, il a arrêté de me faire des remarques à ce sujet. Maintenant, que c'est le Omer et que je dois retourner travailler après les fêtes, je crains qu'il ne soit pas d'accord que je laisse la barbe jusqu'à Lag Baomer. Alors, je voulais savoir si c'est permis de se raser dans un cas pareil. Merci d'avance pour votre réponse.
Putting on Tefillin on top of a ponytail
Question: I was in the airport and I saw Shlichei Chabad put Tefillin on someone with a big ponytail. When he put the Tefillin on him, the Kesher of the Tefillin was on top of the ponytail. Did he even fulfil the mitzvah of Tefillin at all, isn’t that a chatzitza? out of curiosity is there a problem of Lo Yilbash, that he looks like a woman with growing a ponytail?
Question: I have heard there is an inyan to only drink wine for Arba Kosot and not grape juice. I get ill hen I drink wine and it goes to my head right away. So, do I need to drink wine?
The amount of a Kazayit.
Question: Every year I am not sure how much matzah to give out. Can you tell me what the amount of a Kazayit is?
Drinking a little water to help swallow the Matzah
Question: I have a chronic dry mouth so I find the Mitzvah of matzah by the Seder to be very very hard. My mouth dries up and I can barely swallow the shiur needed. Will be allowed to drink a little water or soda with matzah to make it easier to swallow?
Question: Every year before Pesach we diligently do Bedikat Chametz, and Biur Chametz and sell our Chametz. Why do we need to do so many things, my wife gets rid of all of our chametz anyway? Also, every year I get sick from the smoke of Biur Chametz, can I just give the chametz to my Non-Jewish neighbor?
Question: I have a serious operation scheduled right before Rosh Chodesh Nissan and it might take me weeks to recover. During that time won’t be able to get out of bed for the whole month of Nissan at least. Can I say the Bracha on the trees just before Nissan? Or maybe can I say it right after Nissan when I can get out of the house?
Travelling before Pesach
Question: We live in Belgium and we are planning to come to Eretz Yisroel of Purim to visit family, stay for three weeks and then return to Belgium for Pesach. Do we need to do a Bedikat Chametz before we leave? If so, od we need to say a Bracha?
I was in an ice cream store the other day and they were selling milk shakes with cookie pieces. I was thinking of buying it and I asked my friend what bracha to make. He thought it should be Shehakol, but I thought it should be Mezonot. We had the same disagreement about the Bracha Acharona, whether to make a Borei Nefashot or Al Hamichya. I didn’t buy it in the end, but I would like to. So, what bracha should I make?

Question: I have a hard time unfortunately getting to Shacharit on time in the morning. On my way to Shacharit I say Birchot Hashachar. First is that OK? As I am running sometimes though, I think I see dog feces on the floor as I pass. Should I stop saying the bracha in that case?
Speaking to boys at the Workplace
Rabbi, I go with my father to work and help him at his business which is a bakery. There are boys who work there as well and I speak to them sometimes about things at business but not about anything else. Baruch Hashem I am careful about negiah and do not speak any words of affection... is this situation ok? My father comes in from time to time and the boys know that he's there and they are respectful. I would like to hear your advice. Thank you.

Inviting Non-Jews to Seudat Yom Tov
Question: My Grandfather has Arichut Yamim B”H. He has Non-Jewish Filipino attendant hwo goes with him wherever eh is. I want to invite my grandfather for he Pesach Seder but am I allowed to invite his attendant as well? I know that tis it forbidden to make food for a Non Jew on Yom Tov but my grandfather needs him and it would be insulting if I don’t give him a meal as well.
Chalat Chutz Laaretz
Question: Hello Rabbi, I was in a Piza shop the other day in New York. After we finsihded the Pizza and said aBracha Acharona. The Mashgaich walked in a tld everyone to wait Cahlah wasna’t take from the dough and he is taking it now. I was afraid that I ate Issur. Did we eat Isur. If ht eonwer made a mistake and dint take Chalah can we ask for our money back?
Birkat Hatorah for Girls
Question: To the Rabbi: I am in Bet Yaakov and before we start the Tefilla h of the day the teacher says a Dvar Torah for Chizuk or a story or something like that. It occurred to me that we don’t say Birkat Hatorah until we start the Tefilla so maybe this is not allowed. Do we need to say Birkat Hatorah on Chizuk?
