wrong name in a Ketuba
Question: To the Rabbi: I was an Eid- a witness for the Ketubah for my friend Nehorai last night, but I think the Ketuba was passul. Now I know that that is what his friends call him in yeshiva. Before I signed the Ketuba I saw the Mesader Kiddushin wrote HaChatan “Moshe Meir Nehorai.” I have known Nehorai for many years and I know his first name is Moshe, because his family calls him Moshiko, and the Rosh Yeshiva calls him Moshe. However, no one calls him Meir. Yes, he signs his name on official documents Moshe Meir but I thought that was because Nehorai was a strange name and he just put Meir so it would be easier. I don’t think Meir is his real name so maybe the Ketuba is Passul. Should I tell the Chatan?
Question: Rabbi, During Bein Hazmanim a few of us took a Tiyul down to the Negev. We went on this great hike and we didn’t realize how long of a hike it was. A few of us didn’t bring a lot of food and were getting hungry suddenly we smelled a few pitas and we saw a few Bedouins baking pita. We weren’t sure if we were allowed to eat the bread because it is Pat Akum. Some of us were Moreh Heter and said anyway the problem of Pat Akum is so that we don’t become too friendly and marry our children of. Here we will never see them again. Who is right?
Gluten Free Purim
To the Rabbi, I am sensitive to Gluten and can’t eat any of the five grains except for oats. I really don’t like the taste of Oat flour bread. On Shabbat and Yom Tov, I eat a Kazayit and that is it. On Purim do I need to eat a Kzayit of oat bread or can I have Seudat Purim without any bread?
The place of Tefillin Shel Rosh
Shalom to the Rav: I am a Gabbai of the Bet Haknesset. Sometimes a Gabbai not only calls people up for Aliyot but has to be in charge of Seder in the Kehillah. One of the men who pray at our Shacharit minyan spend his whole shacharit looking at other people’s Shel Rosh and telling them to correct it s position. He always finds them to be a little bit off and he motions to them until they move it. Many have told him bluntly to leave them alone, but he feels it is mission from Shamayim to do this. They have to come to me to ask him to stop or tell him he can ‘t pray here anymore. Is he correct? Maybe if I post clear instructions of where the Tefillin Shel Rosh needs to be he will stop.
The knot of the Tefillin
Question: I was removing my Tefillin after Tefilla and I noticed the person sitting next to Me’s Kesher (knot) of the Shel Yad was falling apart. It didn’t even look like a Kesher anymore. Did he fulfill his mitzvah of Tefillin? Should I have said something?
Learning Torah during Chazarat HaShatz
Question: To the Rabbi: In our Kehillah for Shacharit there have been big arguments lately. One part of the Tzibur are very Makpid on Daf Hayomi. If they are behind many of them will continue learning the Daf to catch up during Chazarat HaShatz. So, the other others by the Minyan got upset that they are not paying attention in to the Chazzan. The learners claim that anyway today there is no actual obligation for Chazarat HaShatz since we have siddurim everyone knows the Tefilla. Iven still they are answering Amen so there is a minyan answering. Are they allowed to continue or not?
Question: I live a city where we read the megillah on 14 th of Adar like most cities. After the Seudah of Purim during Arvit, I got confused and I said Al HaNissim in the Tefillah. (Maybe was a little tipsy as well.) Did I make a mistake and if so, do I need to repeat Shmeneh Esrei, or repeat it the next day?

The Minimum number to start Chazarat HaSh”atz
Shalom to the Rav: We have a Shacharit Minyan in our Bet Haknesset early in the morning. The minyan is very small, sometimes eleven men sometimes twelve. Most of the men attending must run off to work, however there are some people who come who pray Shemoneh Esrei much more slowly, and it takes a longtime to finish Shemoneh Esrei. Many members have to run out and become impatient waiting it creates a lot of tension. Are we allowed to start Chazarat HaShatz with less than ten men who finished and if so, what is the minimum?
