An Ashkenazi who has only a Sephardi minyan

Pergunta

I’m getting stronger religious-wise and I’m planning to go to Selichot. I live in a town where there is only a Sephardi synagogue but I’m an Ashkenazi. Do I have to go to Selichot the whole month of Elul like the Sephardim because I pray the Sephardi prayer version with them the whole week?

Resposta

You’re not obligated to, but it’s proper to go from time to time to Selichot, so as not to totally separate yourself from the rest of the congregation.
You should scrupulously attend Selichot beginning from the Sunday that falls a week before Rosh Hashana, which is the Ashkenazi custom.
